Born in Switzerland and raised in Portugal, goalkeeper Costa has made a name for himself at Porto, inspired by his idol Vitor Baia. He honors Baia’s legacy by wearing the number 99 shirt, reflecting his aspirations to emulate the former star who helped Porto clinch the Champions League in 2004.
In 2018, Iker Casillas, who played at Porto from 2015 to 2020, dubbed Costa his "successor," a prediction now coming to fruition. Costa admires Casillas for his relentless desire to learn, stating, "Even in his thirties, he was still eager to grow. His advice was clear: no matter your age, always seek to improve."

While Porto stumbled in their opening Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt, they are regaining momentum domestically under new president André Villas-Boas and manager Vitor Bruno. Costa expresses confidence in their leadership: "They understand the club’s history and are committed to bringing home titles."
One area where Costa shines is saving penalties, boasting a success rate of 36.36%, significantly above the typical average. He attributes his prowess to instincts and preparation, saying, "I watch videos of penalty takers, but in the moment, it’s all about trusting my gut."
Yet, Costa seeks to be more than just a penalty specialist. "I aim to be a complete goalkeeper," he explains. "I want to excel in every aspect, not just in crucial moments."
With a humble approach, Costa emphasizes the importance of continual improvement: "There’s always more to learn. My goal is to work hard, develop my skills, and ultimately win."
