JD(U) Survived Due to Cash Aid to Women, Says Prashant Kishor
Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has claimed that the Janata Dal (United) would have faced a severe setback in the Bihar Assembly elections had the state government not rolled out substantial financial assistance to women shortly before voting.
Speaking at a press conference in Patna on November 18, 2025, Kishor alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government distributed ₹10,000 each to around 60,000 beneficiaries per constituency, along with promising ₹2 lakh to nearly 1.5 crore women under self-employment programmes. According to Kishor, this massive last-minute outreach played a decisive role in preventing JD(U) from being reduced to merely 25 seats.
Kishor acknowledged that his newly formed Jan Suraaj Party could not make a significant impact in the elections despite what he described as an honest effort. Taking full responsibility, he said the outcome highlighted both the challenges of launching a new political movement and the influence of targeted welfare strategies in shaping voter behaviour.
He reiterated that his party remains committed to building a grassroots movement and will continue to work toward bringing structural change in Bihar’s political landscape.
