Indian Consulate Supports Families After Fatal Medina Bus Crash

The Indian Consulate General in Jeddah has established a temporary camp office in Medina to provide immediate assistance to families of Indian nationals who died in the tragic bus accident near the holy city. The move follows a devastating collision in the early hours of November 17, 2025, involving a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims and a fuel tanker.

According to official information, forty-four Indian pilgrims lost their lives in the incident, forty-two of whom were residents of Telangana. The accident occurred as the pilgrims were traveling toward Medina, leading to one of the most severe tragedies involving Indian nationals in the region in recent years.

Consul General Mohammad Shahid Alam visited Medina to oversee relief operations and meet the lone survivor of the crash. He assured full cooperation from the mission, including support for identification procedures, coordination with Saudi authorities, and assistance with repatriation arrangements.

The camp office is working closely with local officials to streamline documentation, facilitate communication with families in India, and ensure that all necessary protocols are followed with sensitivity and urgency.

The Ministry of External Affairs remains in constant touch with Saudi authorities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting affected families during this difficult time.
