Puducherry reports no fresh Covid-19 case

PUDUCHERRY : The Union territory of Puducherry did not report any fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending at 10am on Monday.

All the 157 samples tested for the infection returned negative. This is the first time the territory has not reported any fresh case in a day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, said director (health and family welfare services) G Sriramalu.

Yanam, Puducherry's enclave in Andhra Pradesh, has become Covid-19 infection-free region after two patients, who were under home isolation and treatment, recovered on Saturday. Yanam has not reported any fresh cases for the past two days. Eleven patients recovered in the last 24 hours bringing down the active cases to 28. Of them, 25 are under home isolation and treatment and the rest three are in hospitals.

Puducherry headquarters has the maximum active cases with 15 followed by Karaikal (12) and Mahe (1). The territory did not report any Covid-19 death for the ninth consecutive day on Monday and the toll remained at 1,962. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum fatalities with 1,530 followed by Karaikal (264), Yanam (113) and Mahe (55). The fatality rate of the infection remained at 1.2%.

The territory has so far reported 1.65 lakh cases of which 1.63 lakh patients recovered registering a recovery rate of 98.8%
